The Restaurant Manager (operations And Inventory)

You manage a restaurant. Food costs 30%+ of revenue. Half your time is firefighting. Here's the loadout.

The work an agent can take off your plate:

DAILY SALES ANALYSIS. Each morning, an agent reads yesterday's POS data and writes a 200-word brief:

  • Total revenue vs. last 7-day average.
  • Top 5 sellers, bottom 5 sellers.
  • Voids and comps (which servers, which items).
  • Any items that ran out before close. You read the brief in 90 seconds with your morning coffee instead of spending 20 minutes pulling reports.

INVENTORY TRACKING AND REORDER. Each ingredient depletes per recipe, per dish sold. An agent maintains a running inventory based on:

  • Yesterday's sales × the recipes for each item
  • Subtracted from last known inventory
  • Alerted when below reorder threshold Then drafts the order to your suppliers (Sysco, US Foods, your local fish guy) and sends it to you for approval. You hit "yes" or you adjust quantities. Order goes out.

COMPETITOR INTELLIGENCE. Once a week, an agent pulls:

  • Menus from your top 3 competitors
  • Their delivery app rankings
  • Their recent reviews
  • Any new specials or limited-time offers Writes you a 1-page brief on what changed. Helps you decide when to add a special, raise a price, drop a slow-moving item.

DELIVERY APP MANAGEMENT. DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub all want you to respond to reviews, update menus, run promotions. An agent:

  • Drafts reply templates for common review types (great food; slow delivery, driver's fault; missing item, kitchen's fault).
  • Flags reviews that need your personal attention (1-star with specific complaints).
  • Suggests promo timing based on slow-day patterns.

SCHEDULING. Your servers and cooks have preferred shifts, time-off requests, and skill levels. Building a weekly schedule by hand is 2-3 hours of manager time. An agent that:

  • Reads everyone's availability and constraints
  • Reads forecasted demand for each day-part
  • Drafts a schedule
  • Flags conflicts for your review …cuts that to 20 minutes.

Hardware: Mac mini in the office. Software: same stack as the roofer, plus connectors to your POS (Toast, Square, Clover all have APIs), inventory tool, and delivery apps. The connectors are the trickiest part. Most POS APIs require some setup work, and a CrewAI agent can do most of it.

What this doesn't replace: tasting the food, training new staff, walking the floor during a Friday night rush. Agents handle the paperwork and the data so you can spend your time on the hospitality.
